Featured Artist ArchiveCatherine HillisPainting the Joys of Life Watercolorist Catherine Hillis has a motto that she adopted years ago: "Pursue what you love, love what you pursue." One look at her paintings makes it clear that she has remained true to that ideal. Her images are derived from life and convey her passion for painting. Through public art projects, landscapes, portraits, and especially flowers, Hillis often reveals a quirky sense of humor that is both refreshing and insightful. In Hillis' world, goldfish float serenely in a wine glass, a child's hair is captured wildly mid-flight in an updraft, and a Metro escalator becomes the stairway to heaven. Since moving here from Fairfax last year, she has become enchanted by Loudoun's rural beauty. Her current paintings of people and places around the county reflect that fascination. In Loudoun, her work can be seen at Round Hill Arts Center, Serendipity on the Vine, and The Eclectic Gourmet. She also shows at the Prince Royal Gallery and the Art League Gallery in Alexandria, and in numerous regional and national shows. She maintains a studio at 222 South King Street in Leesburg, and her website is www.catherinehillis.com.
