Jane Butler Fiber Artist Jane Butler

As a small child, Jane Butler learned to sew at her mother's knee. Later, she continued to explore the possibilities of threads and fabric as she expanded her skills in fabric painting and manipulation, embroidery, beading, crochet and sculpture.

Working in her studio at the base of the Short Hill Mountain in western Loudoun, Jane incorporates a variety of techniques into her work.

Currently, she is creating contemporary quilts that are based on photographs of her travels. These quilts typically include three-dimensional fabric manipulations and unexpected embellishments. She also experiments with watercolor and mixed media techniques.

After earning a degree in textiles and applied design, Jane had several jobs in marketing and owned her own advertising firm before finally acknowledging her true calling in fiber art. Former president of Potomac Craftmen Guild, Jane served as show director for the annual Arts in the Alley fine arts and craft festival in Purcellville. She continues to make quilts and fashion accessories; teaches sewing and crochet and has published crochet and sewing designs in many magazines and craft books. Her work is for sale in the Torpedo Factory as well as at art and quilt shows and galleries.
