Michael Rohrer Michael Rohrer

As the principal bassist for the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, Michael Rohrer is fortunate to make a living doing what he truly loves. A versatile musician, Michael plays both acoustic and electric bass, tuba and was even a trumpeter in high school. His repertoire represents a cross-section of American music, from classical to jazz to alt-country and good old rock and roll. Asked what it is about the bass that keeps him engaged, he states simply, “I love low notes.”

Michael has been with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra since it started 14 years ago and is passionate about orchestral music. He has played with many regional ensembles, including Washington Pro Musica and the Fairfax and Arlington Symphonies. An active freelancer, he enjoys chamber music and regularly appears with the Rock Creek Chamber Players. For something completely different, he also plays his tuba with the Lincoln Dixieland Jazz Band.

Michael was born in Queens, New York and lived there for nine years before moving to Alexandria where he spent the rest of his childhood. In 1980, he moved to Lincoln with his wife and two sons.
