Meredith Bean McMath

Meredith Bean McMath has never written anything that she didn't hope would make the world a better place. Armed with her pen, imagination and an unconquerable spirit, she has written her way into the hearts and minds of readers in Loudoun and far beyond, and she has earned a list of credentials that are rich with acclaim.

An author, prize-winning playwright, award-winning historian and the Founding Artistic Director of Aurora Studio Theatre, Inc., McMath's many celebrated works include contemporary and historical plays, video documentaries, historic fiction novels and articles. In 1998 she co-founded Run, Rabbit, Run Productions, Inc. with award-winning historian Joni Crane, and the company's first documentary aired on The History Channel. She has written and directed living history plays for a variety of museums, including The Newseum and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. A published author of historic fiction, McMath is also a freelancer whose work has appeared in publications such as the Washington Post Loudoun Extra and élan magazine.

She has been writing plays since she was in the fifth grade and watching other people direct them, and so in 2004, she founded Aurora studio Theatre, a non-profit theatre company. "I saw a niche in the county's theater world for family entertainment and adult musicals," McMath said. "Loudoun needs more places to go as a family where everyone can have a good time." As Aurora's Artistic Director, McMath manages mainstage productions and outreach programs and occasionally teaches and directs. To date, Aurora has proven itself with such quality productions as "Little Women," "Pajama Game," "The Odd Couple" and "The Musical Adventures of Tom Sawyer," among others. Aurora's fall production, "The Mousetrap" by Agatha Christie will open October 19 at the Carver Center Theatre in Purcellville.

McMath's most recent work is an adaptation commissioned by The Gray Ghost Theatre Company of Manassas, Virginia of Libbie Harrover Johnson's book, The Several Secrets of Will Monroe. The new play will receive a staged reading at the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheatre, Manassas, Virginia on Saturday, August 18, 2007. For more information, visit www.aurorastudiotheatre.org
