Dana Thompson

Dana Thompson was selected "Loudoun's Best Artist" at the Waterford Art Show.

Dana lives in Purcellville and paints in her home studio as well as in her studio at 222 South King Street (King Street Studios) in Leesburg. In addition to painting, she is the Director of the Loudoun Academy of the Arts where she manages an impressive school of fine art instruction.

Dana paints larger-than-life still life paintings. She likes to paint glass, water, and other transparent and translucent objects. She loves vintage imagery and is a regular at neighborhood yard sales where she scours the territory for old props. The artist combines these objects and other family pieces with fruits and vegetables, composing them with a discriminating eye and a bit of whimsy. Also skilled in architectural renderings, Dana has a large portfolio of historic homes in pen and ink that she has drawn over the last 25 years.

This artist knows her style. "I'm not an impressionist, but I don't want to follow the Old Master's style either," she explains. Currently, she is working toward refining her compositions and perfecting her brush strokes. As for her subjects, it is often her sense of humor that drives the painting. "I don't want to be so serious, but I'd like the viewer to 'get it.'"

Visitors can view Dana's paintings in her studio at 222 South King Street in Leesburg.
