Mission: Impromptu

Officially formed in 2004, Leesburg Theatre Company began with a group of local directors, actors and technicians who saw a need for theatre in Leesburg. Interested in shows ranging from the classics to the not so classic, Leesburg Theatre Company is already building a diverse repertoire, ranging from the Steve Martin comedy Picasso at the Lapine Agile all the way to Steven King's Misery. LTC also hosts a one-act play festival called "TheatreMania," which showcases local directors, playwrights, and actors, as well as technicians who entertain during the intermissions with Techie Poetry.

LTC's most exciting program is Mission: Impromptu. M:I, as it is better known, is a traveling troupe of actors who perform improvisational comedy sketches (a la "Who's Line Is It Anyway?") and compete for audience votes. M:I has already performed at various locations, including Leesburg's First Friday, and is also available for special events, and even birthdays.

LTC is not limited exclusively to Leesburg. Their debut production was staged at the Little Carriage House at Oatlands, while their most recent production performed in the basement of the Leesburg Town offices. They are considering performance sites even in Purcellville, according to new Chairman Kate Meier, as they work toward their mission to "create and promote theatrical productions that will entertain, enrich and challenge the Loudoun Arts community." Of course, they are always looking for local volunteers to direct, tech, and act in their performances.

With a new board stepping up, LTC is excited about their new season. The main stage show, which will be produced in September, is the Neil Simon comedy The Good Doctor. "We are also planning to do an Edgar Allen Poe reading at a vineyard in October and a dessert-theater musical review sometime in the fall," according to Meier.
