We will discuss the famous novels in their literary locations and draw and watercolor the countryside that nurtured her imagination and inspired her to write. Professor Angela Iovino instructs the artists who will show their paintings at a British Embassy event after the trip. We will visit what Jane called "the neighbourhood": the picturesque villages, ancient churches, manors, and country houses depicted in her novels--and in many movies. Starting in Windsor we will have half a day to visit the castle before heading to Winchester for two days. From that base we will visit Steventon where Austen spent her first twenty-five years, the Vyne where she went to parties and dances, and Chawton where she wrote most of her novels. Next we will travel to Bath, the Roman town that became a famous resort in the 18th and 19th centuries. From Bath we will travel by private minibus to Lyme Regis where a crucial episode in Persuasion takes place and Lacock, the village used in filming Pride and Prejudice.
