Multimedia Presentation of Student Photo Contest Winners and Entries

To Be Displayed During Loudoun Symphony Performance

Student photos celebrating Loudoun County's natural beauty will be featured in a slide show during the Loudoun Symphony "Mountains and Music" concert at Franklin Park in Purcellville, Va., on May 30, 2010, at 2 p.m.

Loudoun Valley High School students participating in the Newton Marasco Foundation (NMF) photo contest "Celebrating the Beauty of Western Loudoun and the Blue Ridge" submitted photos depicting their perspectives on images of what in our local environment they felt should be protected and preserved.

Photo contest winners, along with more than 80 contest submissions, will be displayed in a multimedia presentation during the Loudoun Symphony performance of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. Copland, whose works are said to evoke the vast American landscape, won the Pulitzer Prize for Music for this composition in 1945. The show is a powerful depiction of the splendor of Loudoun County and the need to protect its natural beauty.

The following contest winners won cash prizes for outstanding composition and portrayal of the environmental stewardship theme:

First place: Jessi Warbis "Cardinal in Winter" Jessi Warbis 'Cardinal in Winter'

Second place: Jessica McCann "Ponds and Creeks" Jessica McCann 'Ponds and Creeks'

Third place: Annika Markert "Horse on Farm with Blue Ridge Mountains" Annika Markert 'Horse on Farm with Blue Ridge Mountains'
