Traveling Exhibition, Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation
Loudoun County Public Library is proud to have been selected to host this national traveling exhibition that focuses on Lincoln's quest to restore a Union divided by Civil War. The exhibition was organized by the Huntington Library and Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and made possible by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

Come to a "Meet the Artists" Reception at The Gateway Gallery & Gift Shop for the "Fruit of the Vine" Exhibit.
Loudoun's newest destination for one-of-a-kind fine art and fine craft, The Gateway Gallery and Gift Shop, is hosting its first event a "Fruit of the Vine" exhibit from September 8 through October 3. The exhibit features work inspired by wine, grapes and vineyards, in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, wood turning, pewter, fiberarts and jewelry. The public is invited to a "Meet the Artists" reception at the gallery Friday September 17 from 6 pm to 9 pm, to chat with the artists about their work and enjoy refreshments. The Gateway Gallery is an artists' cooperative showcasing the work of thirty local artists. The gallery is located in a bright and inviting space in the renovated Hill High Orchard Building, just west of Round Hill on Route 7 and next door to the Round Hill Arts Center, the Bogati Bodega Winery and the Hill High Country Store and Pie Shop. The Gateway Gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 11am to 6 pm.

Special Lecture by Painter Sherry Zvares Sanabria
Neo-Realism Painter Sherry Zvares Sanabria will discuss "French Suite," her paintings of the villages and towns of southwest France. She was drawn to the unique character, diversity, charm and darkness of these historical structures. We believe you will be, too. As in other of her series, French Suite focuses on the luminous stirring light and the mysterious lingering presence of past lives. Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Legendary folk musician Ramblin' Jack Elliott, 2009 Grammy-winner for Best Traditional Blues Recording, is one of the most influential performers of the last fifty years. The "cowboy from Brooklyn" became Woody Guthrieâs protege, Bob's mentor, and got the blues straight from Leadbelly and Mississippi John Hurt. He made music with Cash and hung out with Kerouac. He has rambled across America, performed for British royalty, influenced generations of musicians, recorded forty albums, and won two Grammys and a National Medal of the Arts along the way. The Harvest Table at the Gateway Gallery
Visit the Gateway Gallery and Gift Shop and get into an autumnal mood at the beautiful Harvest Table exhibit, running from October 6 through November 7. This exhibit features work that reflects the harvest season: lovely pottery, weaving, wood and pewter items for dressing your seasonal table and a bounty of beautiful paintings and photographs to adorn your walls. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys
Known in the world of bluegrass music by the popular title, "Dr. Ralph Stanley" (after being awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music from Lincoln Memorial University), Stanley was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1992 and in 2000, and became the first person to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in the third millennium. This will be Ralph's second appearance at the Arts Center. We all had a blast the first time, and we look forward to another great show.

Loudoun Lyric Opera Presents: Ruddigore
Ruddigore; or, The Witch's Curse, originally called Ruddygore, is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It is one of the Savoy Operas and the tenth of fourteen comic operas written together by Gilbert and Sullivan. Founded in 2007, Loudoun Lyric Opera is the resident opera company of Loudoun County in Northern Virginia.

PO8 Lab Theatre Presents: Blithe Spirit
Pieces of Eight Lab Theatre presents Noel Coward's supernatural comedy, Blithe Spirit. Coward wrote this improbable farce as an antidote to the darkest hours of World War II. It premiered in London in 1941 during the German bombing of that city and went on for a record-setting 2000 performances.

Maryland Opera Studio
The Maryland Opera Studio, an acclaimed performance ensemble, will present semi-staged opera scenes in the sanctuary of a historic church in Leesburg. The Studio ensemble has a devoted following that draws large audiences and critical praise for its productions: two fully produced operas in the spring and two entire operas with piano accompaniment in the fall. The University of Maryland two-year program, taught by a star-studded voice and opera faculty, includes all areas of vocal and theatrical training and awards a Master of Music in Opera Performance degree. The Woodshedders

Goose Creek Live Presents: Jake & the Burtones
Formed in the summer of 2008, local string band Jake and the Burtones play originals and American heritage music with infectious energy and tight arrangements. The band is comprised of Quentin Walston on vocals, harmonica, and washboard, Josh Cava on mandolin and guitar, Chris Griffin on upright bass, T-mony Griffin on banjo, and Jack Pugh on guitar and vocals.

The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on the stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same; The story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads.

A discarded silk top hat becomes the focus of a struggle between Professor Hinkle, a washed-up stage magician and a group of school children after it magically brings a Frosty to life. Realizing that Frosty will melt in spring unless he takes refuge in a colder climate, Frosty and a young girl who he befriends stow away on a freight train headed for the north pole. Little do they know that the magician is following them, and he wants his hat back.

A "Burgoo" Christmas
Acoustic Burgoo is a talented group of young acoustic musicians who have delighted audiences throughout Loudoun. They have opened for Ralph Stanley and The Seldom Scene here at the Arts Center, as well as a solo performance last season. A Child's Christmas in Wales
Staff members of the Franklin Park Arts Center will present a staged reading of the classic Dylan Thomas tale of a young boy's reflections on Christmas in a Welsh village. The reading will include music provided by the talented Madeline McNeil on hammered dulcimer. After the reading Madeline will also lead a sing along featuring the carols we all love.

Mike Rayburn--The World's Funniest Guitar Virtuoso
Classically Trained, Comically Derailed . . ." Mike Rayburn's presentation is an odyssey of masterful guitar, universally appealing comedy and musical combinations God never intended. Mike's entertainment style has been described as "Victor Borge with a guitar (and too much coffee)." Mike has headlined Carnegie Hall three times and has also headlined the V Theater in Las Vegas (Planet Hollywood). Silent Films with Live Piano by Bill Edwards
Come watch some classic silent movies with live piano accompaniment by "Perfessor Bill Edwards." Film on January 30 will be Buster Keaton in "Our Hospitality." It involves 1830s train travel through Virginia and a very unusual look at a Virginia family feud and how they deal with hospitality when the enemy is in their own house as a sort-of invited guest. Bill is a resident of Ashburn, and is on tour at silent film and ragtime festivals nationally.
